Diddy Discoverers and Early Explorers:
Our Diddy Discoverers and Early Explorers rooms welcome our youngest children, aged 9 months to 2 years.
The Diddy Discoverers are based in a cosy cabin nestled in the garden — a calm, homely retreat filled with soft textures, sensory toys, and plenty of opportunities for gentle discovery and play. Our Early Explorers have their own inviting space within the main nursery. Here, a small group of children can explore carefully chosen resources that nurture curiosity, confidence, and independence.
We focus on meeting the children’s age appropriate milestones by focusing on their individual wants, needs and targets. We enjoy singing with actions, listening to music and learning new songs. We love sensory play which promotes your child’s visual skills and helps encourage learning through exploring, being curious, solving problems, and being creative.
As they get older, we begin to prepare them for their transition into the Almighty Adventurers room, and develop their independence more, for example practising sitting at the table and on their chair for meal times.
Almighty Adventurers:
Our Almighty Adventurers room welcomes children aged two to three years old - a wonderful stage full of growing independence, imagination, and discovery. In this bright and engaging space, children can freely explore a wide range of thoughtfully chosen resources, each clearly labelled with photos to encourage confidence and independence as they tidy and choose their own play. The room is carefully designed with inviting areas for role play, mark making, and a cosy reading corner — perfect for quiet moments with a favourite story. The children also enjoy access to the garden throughout the day, giving them plenty of opportunities to explore different resources and be active in the fresh air.
For this age group, our practitioners place a strong emphasis on the Prime Areas of Learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These areas form the essential foundation for all future learning, helping each child grow into a confident, capable and curious little learner.
Little Leaders:
Our Little Leaders room is home to our oldest children, aged three to four years old — a time when curiosity, confidence, and independence truly flourish. As children join the Little Leaders, the focus gently shifts towards a more balanced approach across all areas of learning. In addition to the Prime Areas, our curriculum now embraces the Specific Areas of Learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
While children continue to enjoy choosing their own activities and exploring resources freely, there is also a little more structure to their day. A highlight for many is our fun and engaging phonics sessions, based on the multi-sensory Jolly Phonics scheme — where each new sound is brought to life through stories, actions, and songs.
Preparing for school is an exciting milestone, and we place great importance on supporting this transition with care and confidence. Our team works closely with local primary schools and Reception teachers to ensure every child feels ready, capable, and enthusiastic about their next big adventures.
