About Us

Owners

We are both qualified teachers with BEd Honours Degrees. Between us we have over 40 years teaching experience in Primary and Early Years education. We regularly attend meetings and training sessions in and out of the borough and are up to date with recent developments in Early Years..
Claire:

Before setting up our nursery I had been in the teaching profession for 25 years. Much of this time has been spent teaching in an Early Years classroom. I have expertise in leading and managing an Early Years team. I have also been an Assistant Head in a local primary school.
Jane:

Before setting up Little Learners I had been teaching for 17 years. I started off teaching older children, which I loved, but I soon realised that I enjoyed teaching the younger ones even more! In my last role, I was an Early Years Phase Group Leader.

Our Team

We recognise the importance of good quality interactions between adults and children and therefore we aim to ensure our staff members are highly trained. All our staff members have a Level 3 NVQ or equivalent child care qualification. Two of them are currently studying for a degree in Early Years. Each staff member has a DBS (criminal record check). Most have a paediatric first aid certificate and all have safe guarding training. We welcome apprentices and students and we enjoy supporting them in their training.

Munchkins

These are our younger children who range between two and three years old. The children are able to access resources freely and each container of toys is clearly labelled with a photo of its contents. The children also have access to our garden, which is shared with the older children. The room has designated areas, including role-play, mark-making and a cosy reading corner.

For the younger children we focus on the Prime Areas as set out in the EYFS: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal Social and Emotional Development. Practitioners working with the youngest children focus strongly on these areas as they form the basis for successful learning in the other four specific areas.

Cabin Crew

These are our older children aged between three and four years. By the time these children are ready to join the Cabin Crew, the balance will shift towards a more equal focus on the areas of learning and will include the Specific Areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

There is a strong focus on getting ready for school. Whilst the Cabin Crew are able to choose their toys and activities, there is slightly more structure. All the children are provided with an opportunity to learn phonics (based on the multi-sensory Jolly Phonics scheme).

They have great fun learning each new sound through a story, action and song.

We have close contact with the local primary schools and work with the Reception teachers to enable a smooth transition when each child starts school.
